Create Your Own Games: Media Arts Advanced

This is the first time I have ever attempted to create my own video games, and I had a lot of fun doing it. First I downloaded "Stencyl" a free software that has been used by many reputable app designers. Next, I looked through some of their sample games to decide what type of game I wanted to make. After thinking about it for awhile I decided on a "Space Invaders" and "Brick Breaker" format for my games. The unique twist I put on these two classic concepts is the Ohio University theme. I went through a very tedious process while creating  OU Invasion. I used an online picture editor to make transparent backgrounds for various MAC team logos, and inserted them as the enemy. The setting of the game is Peden stadium, and the other MAC teams are attacking from the sky. Luckily, Rufus is at the bottom of the screen defending OUr loyal fans. Rufus shoots paws at the invaders and every time a shot is fired "OH YOU!!!" can be heard. Sometimes when an enemy is destroyed the response "OH YEAH!!!" occurs. Overall this is the better of the two games I created. The other game is just the stereotypical brick game layout except the bricks that need to be broken are shaped "OU OH YEAH" and the paddle becomes smaller every time one of the side walls is touched. I have actually never won yet, it is very difficult. I really enjoyed making both of these games and hope you all will too!

Mini Sagas by Brett Maszczak

Instructions
Write two fifty-word mini-sagas. The origins of the saga comes from Icelandic prose dating back to the 12th century when locals would recount their warrior battles. Today, a saga is referred to as a modern heroic narrative. Your mini-saga should have 50 words. No more, no less. The stories must have a beginning, middle and end. They must be interesting, and they may not be autobiographical. Engage the reader.

Play Ball by Brett Maszczak
Jeffery, a young boy, wanted to play baseball. All day long he would practice outside in the blazing summer sun. Swinging his bat, and chasing down the balls after hitting them a great distance. Jeff's mom signed him up for little league in the Spring and the rest is history.

The Revolution by Brett Maszczak
With Winter approaching and supplies running low the rebel troops' morale was down. If they could not survive the extreme conditions all of their bloodshed would be in vain. Some soldiers resorted to eating the leather on their boots, however the attitude completely changed in camp when General Washington arrived.

Media Arts Basic: Photo Doc

I created this slideshow of myself and my friends going through grade school. The video ends with my 8th grade graduation picture. I used a song written by Green Day entitled Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
